Having to bounce between three different sizes (in the same store!) can make shopping exhausting and frustrating. Whether shopping online or in-store, size charts are often incorrect or irrelevant. Major retailers carry tons of different brands in-store and online, yet they only offer one size chart. Why should shoppers accept that in this digital age? Why can’t we have a brand-specific size chart for every item on a retailer’s website? Currently, at brands like Forever 21, we’re left to guess and pray that the single size chart provided is close enough to whatever piece we’re buying. To prove it, we looked up our “true size” on the Forever 21 size chart and went shopping. Despite the fact that Forever 21’s size chart goes to a size 22, I wasn’t able to size up in this skirt or any other bottom — there was not even one size 22 pant or skirt on the sales floor. Dip-dye mini skirt, $24.90, Forever21 Off-the-shoulder top, $15.90, Forever21 Off-the-shoulder dress, $27.90, Forever 21 Pleated cami dress, $17.90, Forever21 Lace-up swimsuit, $29.90, Forever21 So many people define their worth based on the size tag in their jeans. Vanity sizing and inconsistent clothing measurements really affects people. One day, hopefully, we’ll all get past the number on our clothing tags, but even then, shopping for your size shouldn’t be this much of a guessing game! Forever 21 and a cast of other retailers need to expand and stabilize their sizes. But until then, always remember that your size does not determine your worth.
