I’ve been all about KVD’s liquid lipsticks for years — and until recently, I honestly thought there was no better brand, no better shade range, and no better formula out there. I was wrong. There’s a goth queen-approved beauty brand that makes liquid lipsticks SO AMAZING, I’ve given up on every other tube I own. These are, hands down, the very best liquid lipsticks in the entire world. This isn’t the FULL line ($18, Black Moon Cosmetics), although I do own every shade — these are just my personal favorite colors that I wear the most often. Shades, from left to right: Armageddon, Immortal, Sorrow, Selene, Genie, Sanguis, Wrath, Buried, and Sleepwalker. If you’re a dark lip queen, you know FIRSTHAND how hard it is to find dark liquid lipsticks that are fully opaque with just one coat — so many, including Kat Von D’s Vampira, require multiple layers of product, which looks cakey and feels heavy. All of Black Moon’s dark matte shades apply flawlessly in just one sweep. Unlike every other (disappointing) metallic out there, the Black Metal lipsticks exceed every expectation I’ve ever had. First, they are TRULY metallic — none of this frosty ’80s nonsense. Second, they dry down and last all day — if I had a dollar for every “longwear” metallic lipstick that got all over my teeth, I’d be rich. Finally, they feel great! Truly! Not drying, not heavy, not cakey — every Black Metal shade is a pleasure to wear. Look, I have tried some red liquid lipsticks in my life, but Sanguis ($18, Black Moon Cosmetics) is EASILY the best. The formula is perfect, I can eat and drink all night without it vanishing on me, and it looks astonishingly good on every person who has ever worn it. It’s the perfect cool red, and you need it. The end. Wrath ($18, Black Moon Cosmetics) is perfect however you wear it — blotted onto lips with a finger, as I’ve done here, or applied straight out of the tube with the applicator. It is a color that makes me think of slightly bruised fruit, which is to say it’s the ultimate goth neutral and I LOVE it. Wrath is also a similar color to another, slightly more infamous liquid lipstick shade. Because this is the sort of thing people often ask me, Wrath is very similar to Jeffree Star Cosmetics’ Androgyny. Wrath is a tiny bit less purple and a little more brown, but overall, they’re very similar. So if you love the color Androgyny but feel conflicted about Star as a personality, Wrath could be just what you need. That’s not all. The flocking — that’s the fuzzy stuff that makes the applicator soft — is short and dense, which allows for a very precise line. This applicator is the best of all things, all in one easy design. I very quickly swatched my favorite Black Moon liquid lipstick shades on producer Brittany Fowler’s arm. One extremely quick swipe of each shade gave full, rich color, zero streaks, and no cakey product buildup. The entire arm of swatches dried in under two minutes, and washed clean with an oil cleanser — no scrubbing required. Shades, from top to bottom: Armageddon, Immortal, Sorrow, Selene, Genie, Sanguis, Buried, Wrath, and Sleepwalker. Sorrow, the deep blue, is perhaps a little less obviously shiny than the others — but it makes up for it with the most COMFORTABLE wear time ever on the lips. Yeah. That’s how Immortal ($18, Black Moon Cosmetics) makes me feel. Check out Black Moon’s official website right this second to get your own completely supreme lipstick (and check out everything else the brand makes, because it’s ALL really good). Life is hard, everyone. Finding the best ever liquid lipstick doesn’t have to be.
