The question of whether or not gym class should be mandatory — and whether or not kids should be graded on their performances — has been on my mind lately because my 14-year-old daughter scored an almost perfect GPA this semester (her first in high school!) … except for gym. This isn’t her fault, exactly — she had to miss a few classes for health reasons, and her teacher has been reluctant to give her credit even though we submitted the requisite doctor’s note — but the fact remains: She’s failing gym, and there’s apparently nothing I can do about it....
Moms! Fellow worshippers at the church of hand sanitizer and soap! Listen up! A new study shows all that anti-bacterial soap may not be such a good thing for our babies, especially if you’re nursing. Researchers at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville studied rats to see how triclocarban, a chemical often found in antibacterial bar soaps, affected them while nursing and in the womb. They determined exposure to the compound may reduce the survival rates of babies....
More from CafeMom: Mom ‘Pierces’ Baby’s Cheek to Prove a Point & Facebook Can’t Deal The woman went on to discuss how she was thinking about gifting her friend with a small anti-circumcision ankle band for her to put on the baby after his birth. She also mentioned that she would print out some resources for her to read over. “I bought a bunch of anti-circ bumper stickers I am going to wrap on Yankee candles for guests gifts,” she wrote....
Researchers in the U.K. found that simply showing up for work in the eighth month of pregnancy and beyond was as detrimental to a baby’s health as smoking. According to The Guardian, they found the babies of mothers who kept working had babies who weighed half a pound less at birth than those of mothers who stopped working between six and eight months. And as we know, babies with lower birth rates are at risk for a plethora of problems down the line....

Plus, a woman cannot survive on the neighbor’s baked ziti casserole alone. Running over a warm homecooked dinner or even a special snack or dessert you prepared yourself is probably the sweetest thing you can do, especially if she’s nursing or has older kids (and a husband) with hungry tummies, too. We asked moms who’ve been there and nutritionists to share some thoughtful ideas with a harried new mother in mind....
The only way I know how to describe it is death by a thousand cuts. There were never any big blowups or breakdowns; just a steady stream of nitpickiness and hostility and lack of respect and non-existent boundaries. Words matter, and left unchecked, they can eventually destroy a marriage. Here are 10 seemingly insignificant things to say repeatedly if you want to destroy your marriage. Are you guilty of any of these?...
Turns out, there are tons of female cosplayers dressing up as male characters on Instagram — which is not only super badass, but it also battles gender norms in the community.
My anxiety was, thankfully, situational and fairly short-lived. Once I finished grad school and no longer lived in fear of missing a paper deadline or falling behind at work, my anxiety largely subsided. I still vividly remember, however, the feeling of my stomach churning and the racing thoughts that would keep me up at night when my anxiety was at its peak. Even though I knew I was being irrational and that, really, sick kids aren’t the end of the world, I felt almost paralyzed by my fears....
To make sure you aren’t jumping the gun, check out the faulty logic that makes many a mom end nursing before it’s really time. Keep them in mind when you hit these roadblocks so you can decide when is truly the right time for you! When did you know it was time to stop breastfeeding? Image via Dmytro Vietrov/shutterstock “Moms who get sick are often afraid breastfeeding will make her baby sick,” says Jennifer Lincoln, an OB/GYN at Bundoo, which enables parents to consult with doctors online....
Is that OK? Are you sure? Because the mother of an 11-year-old girl who was spanked at school ended up filing a police report and taking the child to the hospital after she got the paddling of her life. Kind of makes you wonder why anyone would say “yes” to letting someone else spank your kid, doesn’t it? Even a school? Oh I know, I know, there is a difference between child abuse and a corrective swat on the tush....

If you remember back to your own childhood (through that foggy mom brain of yours), we had a lot more independence and fewer rules with which to contend. That’s not to say the heightening of car safety and other protective regulations aren’t incredibly important, it’s just different from “the old days.” We asked moms to share the now-controversial practices of parenting generations past — those things that were once accepted but we’d be totally judged for now....
And you’ve probably heard plenty of debate on the playground — maybe even been involved in a tussle or two. Does sugar make our kids hyper? Is it just a part of a normal childhood? Here’s the good, the bad, and the ugly about kids and sugar....
