Revie stayed in her happy new mom bubble for 11 days after welcoming Lola before turning on her computer and seeing what she missed. Unfortunately, the first thing that popped up was utterly disgusting. “[My inbox] was a jungle to say the least but I had one pestering email, who had chased me up THREE times in the 11 days Lola had been alive,” she wrote on Instagram. “A company endorsing flat tummy supplements ‍♀️.” reviejane/Instagram This message hit Revie hard — no new mom should feel judged or pressured to “get rid” of their postpartum bodies. “I felt rage, I felt annoyed and then I felt sad. I felt sad to any woman who may feel further pressure from companies and society with this pressuring message,” she wrote. “I felt sorry for the first time mommy I was two years ago that would have felt sad looking at her postpartum belly because it wasn’t flat yet.” This kind of diet message can be devastating to new moms, and Revie admits that it easily could have destroyed her after giving birth to her first baby. “I am wiser and stronger now. My priority is not having a flat tummy, my priority is the health of my babies and the mental and physical health of myself,” she wrote. “My priority is building a strong, healthy and fit body so I can chase my babies, throw them in the air, push them in the pram and carry them for hours on end.” So no, kind stranger peddling diet pills to vulnerable new moms days after birthing a human. This mama isn’t interested in getting in shape your way. “I will achieve this with healthy food, staying hydrated, functional training, resting where possible and most importantly being KIND to myself and by giving myself TIME,” she wrote. “In my experience, it wasn’t for a few months until my tummy settled down. It carried a baby for 42 and then 39 weeks. It’s okay for it to take a few months or more to readjust.” Instead of thinking you immediately have to lose weight, Revie just hopes that moms realize it’s okay whether it happens quickly or never, and she’s going to rock her fourth trimester bump for as long as it sticks around. “So here is my tummy, far from ‘flat.’ You can shove the pressure to have a flat tummy up your ass,” she wrote. “This body has grown two healthy, magical beings and I’m thrilled with my beautiful postpartum body ✨.”
