One CafeMom got me thinking…I can do it myself and even make my own wax. Smart thinking! CafeMom AudlyLuvly featured a post on making your own beauty products in the Healthy Living/Diet Forum. She’s a woman after my own heart! In the thread, she talked about how she, too, loves the smoothness of waxing, but hates the salon prices. She figured out how to make it herself and it’s sugar wax! She says she thinks it’s better than regular wax because the sugar sticks to the hairs and not the skin. I agree — love the sugar wax. While I wouldn’t recommend doing a Brazilian on yourself (ouch), sugar wax would be great for basic bikini line, face, arm, even leg waxing. You will need:

2 cups sugar 1/4 cup water 1/4 cup lemon juice

How to prepare: Mix all ingredients in a microwave safe bowl. Heat on high for two minutes. Remove and stir. Put back in for another two minutes. Remove and stir. Continue until mixture is a caramel color with a thick consistency. Let it cool for a minute or two so you don’t scald your skin. Test with finger before use. Smooth wax on area you want to remove hair in two inch sections. You can apply wax with a spoon and spread evenly. Use a cloth (like a clean old t-shirt you no longer want), cut in strips, to place on top of wax, smooth down, let set for 30 seconds, then peel off fast just like a regular waxing.
You can also use this wax without the strips. The trick is to let it cool enough that you can handle it with your bare hands. Take some and knead it like dough so it makes a little ball. Then spread it on your skin and pull of fast. If still sticky, you can re-use it on other areas of hair. Do you use sugar wax? Do you wax at home or at spa?
