If you bring a dude home and he sees any felines frolicking about, he’ll probably assume you murder your suitors and sew their eyelashes together for a sweater vest. Even worse, he’ll wonder whether or not your “ovaries are dried up” — unless you’ve already sacrificed them in a pagan ritual. On Saturday, September 10, a co-worker and I attended a cat lady cabal at New York Fashion Week, to get to the bottom of this cat lady craze. “Arrow” star Katie Cassidy and Fresh Step hosted the “Hot to Adopt” event. Revelist spoke to Cassidy about her cat fashion show and kitty motherhood in general. Soon, you’ll see why dating a cat lover is a TERRIBLE idea. But then I learned that there’s actually around 3 million cats in shelters, and it just broke my heart.” WAY TO BE TOTALLY UNFEELING. Just take it from Cassidy, a busy, jet-setting actress: “Dogs are more hands-on. Finding a forever home for my cat didn’t change my lifestyle that much. Obviously, when I travel, I make sure someone’s taking care of [Kizu], but it’s not a difficult thing.” “If anything, it’s nice to have a little friend to greet me when I come home.” *I have to break character here, because I’ve literally never wanted anything more than this bomb ass jacket. “I think cats are cool. I think they’re all the rage right now, and I hope they stay that way. Hopefully we do change [the cat lady] stigma.” People like Katie Cassidy are doing thoughtful, important work to reverse the “cat lady” stigma that hurts humans and animals alike. I hope you join our cat-loving cause by visiting the ASPCA, AdoptAPet, or your local shelter. Main Image: Amy Sussman/AP Images
